introduction

Background

I taught maths in secondary and middle schools for 15 years and then spent a further 10 years as an advisory teacher for mathematics, working in both primary and secondary schools.

I have worked as a freelance consultant since 1998, initially in schools but now concentrating on work with educational publishers, where I have gained a wide experience as a writer and editor of both printed materials and multimedia resources, including CDROM, interactive whiteboard, educational television and video.

The majority of my work is directly involved with mathematics. However, I also work on interactive educational materials for other subjects, acting as the interface between subject authors and programmers by taking the authors' ideas and turning them into detailed animation and video storyboards for the graphic designers and coders.

Written materials

I write original material, and am happy to work on my own or as part of a team of authors. I also take on consultation and content editing roles.

Interactive materials and video

I create original ideas for teaching maths interactively and produce detailed storyboards for the associated animations. I also undertake review, testing and editing of interactive materials and video.

Further detail and examples of my work can be found in the client and portfolio pages of the site.

High standards

I always keep the educational value of the materials as the highest priority. Whatever the format, the materials must work at least as well as any other way of teaching the same idea and preferably offer something that can't be tackled in any other way. This is particularly true for interactive and video work, which should offer ways of exploring and showing ideas that can't be managed on paper.
